Hi Families!
For our third quarter conferences we are trying something new! We will be conducting student led conferences, where the students take ownership of their work! I will be having three students/parents per half hour and I will be walking around answering any questions you may have during your conference with your student. These are optional, but recommended! Please sign up on the link below!
*Note: Please sign up if I have your child for either Math or ELA, NOT just Advisory! Thanks!

I wanted to give a BIG shout out to my ELA students for doing such a wonderful job on the Country A to Z presentations! We all learned so much! Final grades for this project will go out on Monday, March 23rd, along with the suitcases. The next project will be assigned in the math/science class.

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! The weather was beautiful! I enjoyed taking my science class outside last week to do a lesson on the anatomy of the hermit crab, and letting my reading class buddy read outside! Yay for nice weather!
Next week we are continuing in our research about hermit crabs. We are going to review each students purchase req and combine them to make a class purchase req to present to Mr. Price!
We are also learning about comparing numbers with less/greater than and base ten, and beginning our third plant unit experiment.
The ELA class is working very hard on our non-fiction Student Treasures book about animals. Our publication date is coming up next week!
Also, the Valentines Day Challenge is completely optional! I hope all of the students participate!
Our Valentines Day party will be on Thursday, at 2:40 until the end of school. Feel free to bring in treats (healthy too!) that day, and we will be exchanging valentines, enjoying treats and watching a fun valentine movie.

If you are interested in the talent show please sign up! The link is on Mrs. Kettleson's website. We will be holding try outs in the next few weeks!

Happy Friday! We had a wonderful week back from Fall break! Spirit Week is coming up in two weeks, all of the spirit days are on my Calendar tab. Also, a new project was sent home in the ELA/Social Studies block about the Polar Express. Please check in on my Projects tab for further information! We are in need of donations of the quality name brand Duct Tape, as the cheaper duct tape doesn't like to come off the floors!
Also, if any parent volunteers would like to help set up the railroad Wednesday, December 17th after school that would be much appreciated! No kids allowed that afternoon to keep it a surprise!
Have a great weekend!

Welcome back from fall break! I hope everyone's break was filled with lots of love, fun and delicious food! All the kids came back with smiling faces on Monday, sharing all of their stories!
We got right back into the swing of things this week, reviewing skills, working hard on the in class projects, practicing with money, playing detective games with adjectives and creating exciting stories.
Spelling tests will begin to be bi-weekly for the remainder of the year.
Unfortunately, due to internet connection problems, we had to reschedule the Family BizMovie this afternoon. The show was rescheduled for Thursday, December 11th at 4:00 in Mrs. Kettleson's classroom.
Also, look out for a confirmation email for Art Club, which will be next Tuesday, December 9th and the following Tuesday, December 16th.
Please continue to bring in canned food items for the food drive! All of your donations are greatly appreciated!
Last but certainly not least, my seminar class is doing an absolutely AMAZING job! We created a fundraiser for the less fortunate children and families in Cambodia, and we will be selling recycled paper jewelry and keychains in the Owl Place Student Store starting on Monday! :)

Due to personal reasons, Mrs. Parsons has left the DCS team. Mrs. Arnot is now joining our team and we are very happy to have her! If your child is in this advisory, math or reading class please welcome Mrs. Arnot!
Also, because of the Multicultural Potluck on Wednesday, we will not be having ELA. Therefore, our spelling test will be tomorrow! If homework journals are finished by tomorrow, I will collect those as well. If not, then students can hand in homework journals on Thursday, but just be aware that I will then have them over the Fall Break.
Have a happy Monday!!!

This upcoming Wednesday will be our Multicultural Potluck! Because of my recent travels to Cambodia, my advisory class will be doing Cambodia for our country! We started talking about Cambodia on Thursday, the geography, the struggles, the Water Festival, the dance and the food!
To help with the Multicultural Potluck on Wednesday I will share a bit of information on Cambodia.
Cambodian food takes influences from a variety of countries. Cambodia was a French colony for many years and also has many Chinese immigrants, so both French and Chinese foods are widely found. In the west of the country, the cuisine is, naturally, influenced by the food of neighbouring Thailand while in the east the flavors of Vietnamese cuisine are more evident.
Coastal towns such as Sihanoukville in the southwest are famous for their seafood, cooked in many styles, including Japanese and European. Common ingredients in Khmer & Cambodian cuisine are similar to those found in other Southeast Asian culinary traditions – rice and sticky rice, fish sauce, palm sugar, lime, garlic, chilies, coconut milk, curry, lemon grass, galangal, kaffir lime and shallots.
Have a wonderful weekend! :)

We are going on a voyage! In remembrance of Columbus Day last weekend, the class is going to go on a voyage around the world. We will be visiting different "worlds" (classrooms) in search of the New World and we will need to pack supplies for food and trade during the journey. Many items are needed for donation by Monday, October 20th. The list of the items were sent home yesterday, and the list is also on my Wish List tab. Our voyage is on Tuesday, October 21st so please send in items! Thanks in advance!
Progress Report conferences are on Friday, October 24th. These meetings are optional, yet highly recommended. We will discuss your students progress up to this point. I always have an open door policy, so please remember that these conferences are not meant to be the only time to meet!

Art Club will be on Tuesdays from now on, and pick up will be at the back 1-2 gate at 4:20 instead of 4:30!
On Thursday, a permission slip to the Lions Habitat was sent out, along with a waiver. Please bring these back as soon as possible, since the field trip is just around the corner on October 20! The deadline for permission slips is Wednesday, October 15th, to give Mrs. Story adequate time to arrange the rides. Thanks!

I have received most of the parent volunteer sheets, so I will be looking those over this week and getting back to those who wish to volunteer! Thanks in advance! Also, I will be sending home a new sheet for Art Club today, and I will also include a link on my website for families to print off at home at their convenience. Remember, Art Club will be on Tuesdays from now on!
I also wanted to apologize for this week's spelling list not being on the website. I just noticed it now, but for some reason when I put Spelling List 4 on the website it didn't load. Hope this didn't cause any major problems!

Welcome October! The fall is already here and I am so excited because it is my absolute favorite season!! Picture Day went well, and if you missed pictures then there will be a retake day in the near future. Also, there are many after school activities being offered, so sign up! Art Club will be changing from Wednesdays to Tuesdays, starting with the next session (10/15 & 10/22). Our in class restaurant (math) and cruise ship (ELA) projects are going well, and the students are learning important skills like compromise and flexibility as they work together! Dr. Price was also in this week to talk to the kids about curiosity. Also, keep an eye open in the front office for my Art Classes pointillism pieces and the BizMovie seminar's ticket sales! Have an amazing weekend!

A couple quick announcements, Picture Day is on Monday, so bring your beautiful smiling faces! Also, I wanted to thank all the grandparents, families and friends who made it to Grandparents Day yesterday. I was so wonderful to see how happy and proud the students were to share their school with their loved ones!
For my Math/Science block, I sent home the filled out project proposals for the Plant Project so you can begin working on those! Check out Plant World Nursery on W. Charleston, it is a wonderful store and they can help you find exactly what you are looking for. Plus, they have a number of beautiful animals around the property! There were a few students who did not hand in the proposal, so please make sure that it is filled out and handed in on Monday, or you can email me with your child's three choices if you want to get a head start on the project this weekend.
Have an awesome weekend my friends!

Just a quick reminder, ART CLUB will begin next Wednesday, September 17th. It will be a first come first serve basis. The first two students to hand in the form in each advisory will be in the Art Club for that session. You will need to commit to two weeks, as 45 minutes a week just isn't long enough! Art Club will be on Wednesdays after school from 3:45 to 4:30. A new sign up flyer will be sent home bi-weekly. Confirmation will be sent via email. Pick up is at the K-2 gate. Thank you!

Hello Families & Friends! Just a couple quick reminders! Open House is on September 23rd from 4 to 6pm. Please stop by with any questions or to just say hello! Also, papers will be sent home next week confirming which Math and Reading teacher your child has, to limit confusions! Last but not least, I sent home a Media Release form to allow permission to post pictures on this website of our classroom activities. Please send this back in with your child asap!

Hello all! We are well into the second week of school! Can you believe it?? After a successful week of assessments with each student's advisor last week, we rotated into the Math/Science block and the ELA/Social Studies block this week. Please be aware that although your student has a homeroom advisor, that particular advisor may not have your student for the core subjects. That is why it is important to check in with all the advisor's websites! There will be an Open House in the upcoming weeks where all of your questions will be answered!
I wanted to give a huge thank you to all of my parents for their donations to the classroom! I am very excited for this year and it is so refreshing to see the student's excitement to be back!
I update my website weekly, so please check back frequently. Also, do not hesitate to email me with any questions, comments or concerns!
